Pre-paid funerals allow the advance planning of a funeral, whilst paying the costs in advance at today’s prices. A pre-arranged funeral service provides peace of mind for you, knowing that your funeral will be arranged exactly how you would like.
Some pre-paid funeral plans are insurance based and require the constant payment of a monthly fee to maintain cover and some pre-paid funeral plans, like the ones we offer require a single payment that can be paid in instalments.
Through Golden Charter, we offer fully bespoke pre-paid funeral plans that are guaranteed; the funds being held in a separate trust, managed by independent trustees. We have a long history with Golden Charter and work closely with their team, whilst they in turn support our clients with an out of hours helpline.

All pre-paid funeral plans can be cancelled, amended and are transferable should you move to a new area. Funeral Plan FAQs
Yes, simply complete the ‘plan holder’s representative’ section of the application process.
We will arrange for all correspondence to be sent to you, however if paying by fixed monthly payment, please note the plan holder will be contacted directly by Phoenix Life who provide this payment option.
Please let us know you are moving so we can update our records. You will have the option to move your plan to a different funeral director, if required.
As an additional benefit, should you die away from home but within mainland UK, we will arrange transportation back to the funeral home. Overseas transportation is not included in your plan. You will also have to refer to your travel or medical insurance.
You can tell us about any special wishes for your funeral when you apply. If these incur additional costs, not covered by your plan, you will be advised of the cost and these will need to be paid at the time of the funeral.
We will inform you if this happens and appoint a new funeral director in accordance with your wishes.
As a plan holder you will receive a membership pack containing contact details for your funeral director. When the time comes your family simply contacts the funeral director and quotes your plan number. The funeral director will then take care of all the arrangements.
Your payments are protected. Depending on how you have chosen to pay, your money will be paid into the Golden Charter Trust or a life insurance policy with Phoenix Life. It will be held there until needed to pay for your funeral arrangements.
What are the options for payment?
- One single payment
- 12 monthly payments (interest free)
- Low cost instalment option (deposit required and subject to interest charges)
- Fixed monthly payment - payments will be used by Golden Charter to buy a life assurance policy
This will depend on the type of payment method you have chosen. If you are paying by 12 monthly instalments and you die before all payments have been made, the balance will be requested from your estate so your funeral can still be carried out. Or, the plan can be cancelled and the payments refunded (less £249 cancellation fee).
If you have chosen the low cost monthly instalment option and you die within 12 months, all the money you have paid will be returned to your estate. If you die after 12 months but before all of the instalments have been paid, the balance will be requested from your estate so that your funeral may still be carried out.
If you have chosen to pay by fixed monthly payments and you die within the first two years, the funeral director will receive the money you have paid plus an additional 20% provided your payments are up to date. Your family or estate will then have to pay the balance
A joint funeral plan is designed for two people, usually a married couple or civil partners, used to pay for the funeral when one person dies. It differs from a standard funeral plan as it allows for two people to be named as the funeral policy holders. Joint funeral plans will only pay out for one person’s funeral, usually the first plan holder that dies.
